Abstract

The aim of this investigation was to determine the characteristics of oral yeast infections in head and neck cancer patients. A cross-sectional case-control study was conducted at three hospitals including the 103 Military Hospital, 108 Military Hospital and Ha Noi Oncology Hospital (from January 2021 to December 2022). A total of 90 head and neck cancer patients were examined and collected information and oral fluid specimens for fungal detection for analysis. Oral fluid specimens were cultured on ChromAgar® Candida and results were analyzed by microscopy. The results show that, the prevalence of oral yeasts in head and neck cancer patients was 55,56% and has increased among cancer patients on chemoradiotherapy. C. albicans (> 50%) was the most common causative agent in head and neck cancer patients. Non - C. albicans species were more than 25% of all.
